Not dealing with condensation in your home leads to mould levels that can make you ill and worsen the symptoms of Asthma. During winter, cold temperatures mean that air can hold less moisture, which makes condensation worse and accelerates damp and mould issues.
Improved home air quality using Positive Input ventilation (PIV) systems can help reduce problems for asthma and allergy sufferers. A government report in 2010 showed that half of the world’s illnesses are aggravated or caused by poor indoor air. Large populations of dust mites that grow in situations where damp and humidity is a problem release many allergens which can worsen winter colds.
Some of the changes we make to our homes to improve energy efficiency such as better insulation, double glazing and draught proofing can reduce natural ventilation and create a viral soup of trapped stale air filled with mould spores, dust mites, smoke, and the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) created by cleaning products and the fabric of our homes.
A recent report by The National House Building Council (NHBC) stated that indoor air could be as much as five times as polluted than outdoor air. The report warned that indoor air quality is a major environmental health problem.
As you improve the insulation of your home to improve energy efficiency, it is vital to balance this with improved ventilation.
At EnviroVent, we design, manufacture, and install effective whole home ventilation units that are designed to gently ventilate the home from a central position. PIV (Positive Input Ventilation) systems provide fresh, filtered air at a continuous rate. This dilutes the amount of moisture in the air and displaces it to control humidity levels at a comfortable level of around 55%. This is below the threshold where condensation will form on surfaces such as walls and windows and eradicates the conditions where damp patches form where mould can grow.
An additional benefit of modern whole house PIV units is that they help to distribute heat around the home which reduces the cost of heating space and means a more consistent internal temperature – with good ventilation, you can say goodbye to having to constantly adjust radiators in different rooms that heat up too fast or too slowly.
Modern PIV systems are highly efficient. Using ultra-low watt motors mean that the systems operate at very low power levels which means that they do not have a significant effect on your electricity consumption and reduce your carbon emissions. EnviroVent’s Lifetime range has been designed to outlast the lifecycle of the property it is installed in and comes with a 5-year guarantee.
