In August 2004 the decision was taken to specify the EnviroVent Filterless Extract Fan across Fife Council’s housing stock due to its innovative design, guaranteed performance and its many environmental benefits.
By July 2007, 9000 EnviroVent Filterless Extract Fans had been installed across the Fife Region.
Maintenance
Since the specification has been agreed, Fife has not spent a penny in maintenance or repair apart from the initial cost Fife Council ongoing warranty:
Fife Council's ongoing warranty:
Time Plan
2004-2007 No cost incurred
2007-2008 Still no cost incurred
2012-? Central cartridges replaced and a new 5 year warranty issued
The BIOFAN®
Between 2007, Fife continued to specify the EnviroVent Filterless Extract Fan, installing around 3000 fans every year. In 2010, the specification was upgraded to the new EnviroVent BIOFAN®. This is a major development in extract fan technology to incorporate the patented BioCote® antimicrobial protection. This inhibits the growth of bacteria, microbes and mould on the surface of the fan by up to 99.99%. The BIOFAN® has been designed and manufactured to include the same environmental benefits as the EnviroVent Filterless Extract Fan, offering the lowest maintenance through filterless technology and a replaceable central cartridge system.
Since 2010, Fife has installed over 5000 BIOFANs into its properties, with a further 3500 expected to be installed throughout 2012.
In total since 2004, Fife Council has installed over 20,000 EnviroVent extract fans across its housing stock. If any other extract fan had been installed, Fife could have expected to have paid in excess of £12 million in replacement fan costs over a 25 year period. This would amount to 100,000 replacement extractor fans, equivalent to 32 fully loaded 20 foot containers going to landfill sites.
The weight of plastic that would be saved in the injection moulding process would be 250,000Kg and the energy cost in producing it would be £27,500, amounting to 108 tonnes of CO2.
As Fife intend to specify the EnviroVent extract fans for their remaining 20,000 properties in the kitchens and bathrooms, they will save a total amount of £36million and 300,000 replacement fans over a 25 year period. Not only that, the carbon emissions that would be saved based on their total housing stock of 30,000 dwellings would be a staggering 323 tonnes over the 25 year life-cycle period.
Keith Brown, Housing Maintenance & Improvement Team Leader at Fife Council said,
"Since 2004 we have been specifying EnviroVent products. We are delighted that we have been able to lower our maintenance costs and save substantial amounts of money, whilst saving hundreds of tonnes of plastic from going to landfill sites."
